Who:               U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration

Swank Enterprises Inc.

What:             Workplace safety alliance

Background: On Oct. 11, 2022, OSHA’s Billings area office and Swank Enterprises signed a two-year alliance to proactively enhance a safe and healthful work environment for employees involved in the construction of a dining facility at the University of Montana in Missoula. The two organizations will collaborate to prevent workplace incidents and fatalities by providing training, following best practices, improving safety and health programs, and ensuring compliance with OSHA standards and regulations. The alliance will emphasize the involvement of management and workers, and hazard prevention and control.

The project calls for construction of the campus’ primary dining facility. The alliance seeks to protect the safety and health of workers employed by subcontractors involved in different phases of the $39 million project, including preparation, precast concrete, structural steel, HVAC, electrical and roof work.

The OSHA Alliance Program enables organizations to enter voluntarily into a cooperative relationship to raise awareness of OSHA’s initiatives, outreach, communications, training and education.

Quote: “OSHA and Swank Enterprises will be working together to help protect the people employed during construction from injuries or worse during construction of the University of Montana’s new dining facility,” explained OSHA Area Office Director Art Hazen in Billings, Montana. “Partnerships like these allow OSHA to promote safe work practices, and help employers and workers recognize hazards to ensure that workers end their shifts safely.”
