WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today approved additional funding of $2,935,100 to the California Department of Employment Development to support continued employment for disaster-relief cleanup and recovery after severe winter storms in 2019 led to flooding, landslides and mudslides in 23 northern and central California counties.
Administered by the department’s Employment and Training Administration, the grant award will assist in the completion of storm clean up and the repair of roads and public lands in Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, Del Norte, El Dorado, Glenn, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mariposa, Mendocino, Modoc, Monterey, Napa, Riverside, Santa Barbara, Shasta, Sonoma, Tehama, Trinity, Tuolumne and Yolo counties.
In July 2019, the department approved a Disaster Recovery National Dislocated Worker Grant funding of up to $8,805,300 and an initial release of $2,935,100 to create disaster-relief jobs included in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s major disaster declarations in May 2019. This incremental award brings the total DWG funds awarded in this grant to $5,870,200.
Authorized by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, Dislocated Worker Grants temporarily expand the service capacity of dislocated worker training and employment programs at the state and local levels by providing funding assistance in response to large, unexpected economic events that cause significant job losses.
