WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service announced today enhanced curricula for the Transition Assistance Program mandatory courses beginning Jan. 1, 2023.
The department’s portion of TAP includes “Employment Fundamentals of Career Transition,” a mandatory, one-day, foundational, employment-preparation workshop for all transitioning service members. The updated course reviews tasks in a typical job search – the what and the why – to make job searches more efficient and effective. Two optional, two-day tracks – the department’s “Employment Workshop” and the “Career and Credential Exploration Workshop” – will also be offered.
VETS will also offer an accessible and flexible employment workshop specifically for wounded, ill and injured transitioning service members, their caregivers and all military spouses. The Wounded Warrior and Caregiver Employment Workshop serves the unique needs of these service members – and those being evaluated for a disability rating through the Integrated Disability Evaluation System – an alternative to complete the required TAP one-day Employment Fundamentals of Career Transition. The 508-compliant curriculum includes six self-paced online modules participants can complete on timelines they choose, and enables users to meet online with a department facilitator to ask questions and to discuss activities and course content.
VETS also launched a new workshop in its Transition Employment Assistance for Military Spouses and Caregivers curriculum. The new workshop, Flexible Job Options, shows participants how to explore, research, and secure legitimate, career-building, flexible jobs. Facilitators deliver the 10 TEAMS workshops online and in-person at various times to increase participation by military spouses and caregivers.
