WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the award of a $5 million cooperative agreement to Partners of the Americas to implement a project to improve compliance with labor laws in the port sector of Colombia.
The project will pilot approaches in the largest port of Buenaventura and other ports, giving special attention to the labor rights of Afro-Colombian port workers. It will support effective compliance with and enforcement of Colombia’s labor laws in a manner consistent with the U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement.
The grant is made available through the Department’s Bureau of International Labor Affairs, whose mission is to promote a fair global playing field for workers in the U.S. and around the world by enforcing trade commitments, strengthening labor standards and combating international child labor, forced labor and human trafficking.
